Update 1.1.0

Updated: Jun 26, 2023

Here it is! The first major feature update! Today on February 2nd, 2023, it has been one year ago to the day that Sonic Tag-Team Heroes was made available. It was not a haphazard release either, it was preceded by much iteration and playtesting. In a similar vein, the Intro Adventure was playtested, not just by yours truly, but by members of our fledgling community as well! So without further ado, let's dive into the new features of this update

The "Anniversary" Update

  • Introducing an all-new section to the rulebook, which includes a basic Intro Adventure that can be played in about four hours:

"'"NEW"'" Locations!

Players and GMs will cut their teeth running through checkerboarded hills and fighting all sorts of nasty Badniks. Finding Eggman's base is easy, but players will have a variety of ways to go about infiltrating it that highlight their skills and the Real Superpower of Teamwork!

NEW Allies!

Fans of the IDW comic series will be excited to know this adventure features a special guest appearance from fan-favorite extra, Lanolin the Sheep! But what will her role in this adventure be? Will she make it without having a panic attack? Play to find out!

Additionally:

  • Rules have quality-of-life improvements, with more boxes and examples that delineate the text and hopefully make it a bit easier to look up certain rulings

  • Fixed moar typos

What's up for Year 2?

Year 1 was a quiet year, word of mouth for this game was starting from ground zero, with little-to-no hype leading up to it. The proverbial snowball has just started to take shape and is working its way over toward the downward slope of the hill. Much of the past year was spent pitching a minimum viable product (that is, a game that "works" and provides enough content to warrant at least trying), so getting everything in place to promote the game and getting it tested out in the wild was crucial. With the Intro Adventure finally released, I daresay that goal has been accomplished.

Year 2 will leverage the community feedback from year 1 to polish the existing experience into a solid foundation for releasing more content. There's a lot of late-game stuff that I want to eventually be in the system (Final Bosses, Super forms, etc.) that I've held back on as I've continued to gauge the performance of the early-game content. The next feature update will introduce some refinements to the dice resolution system, though the timeline on that is TBD. I also have plans to signal boost the reach of the game and grow the community, so stay tuned for what that entails.

The best is yet to come!
